Accident junction work approved

Almost a quarter of a million pounds will be spent on a Leicestershire road junction to cut accidents.

The £230,000 scheme on the A511 Stephenson Way/Broom Leys Road junction in Coalville has been approved by the county council.

A study showed eight out of the 10 recorded accidents in the past three years involved right turns.

Improvements will include widening the junction, installing filter lights and extra pedestrian crossings.

Along with separate lights for some of the turns, right turns from Broom Leys Road onto Stephenson Way will be prohibited.

Work is due to begin this autumn and will last for about 12 weeks.

Temporary traffic lights will be used, but officials said they would try to keep them to a minimum.
