New cycle path scheme completed

A £130,000 scheme to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians in Leicestershire has been completed, the county council has said.

The project in Oadby, part-funded by transport charity Sustrans, included the creation of cycle paths on the B582 Wigston Road and Rosemead Drive.

Toucan crossings have also been installed at the B582 and Brabazon Road junction.

The scheme links with an existing cycle route connecting Wigston and Oadby.

Lesley Pendleton of Leicestershire County Council said: "These improvements will help people walking to and from Oadby town centre and provide links with Parklands Leisure Centre and Brocks Hill Country Park, as well as schools and shops in the area.

"We hope that people will be encouraged to leave their car at home and give walking or cycling a go."
