Man, 48, held after A42 pile-up

A 48-year-old man has been arrested after a crash on the A42 in Leicestershire in which one person was killed.

The accident, involving 10 vehicles, happened on the northbound carriageway at the junction for Appleby Magna just after 0830 BST.

Eight others were injured in the crash, which involved one lorry, a van and eight cars, police said.

The road was closed between junctions 10 and 12, but opened later.

Leicestershire Police appealed for any witnesses to the accident to contact them.
