Organisers said activities would be offered to children

Moves to cut anti-social behaviour are being backed by a Bluetooth message sent to Leicestershire schoolchildren. The multi-agency Safer Summer initiative has begun with an animated alert being sent to all phones within certain areas. The message asks whether the child will get involved in crime, alcohol and drugs, rather than enjoy the holidays. Police said it was part of a crackdown on a rise in problem behaviour associated with the summer. Banners with "We've got a message for you! Switch your Bluetooth on!" in schools are being backed with presentations in classes and at school assemblies by Youth Initiatives Officers talking to young people about how high spirits can be perceived as anti-social behaviour. Supt Steve Boulton, from the Leicestershire Police community safety bureau, said: "There are a number of teenagers who may be tempted to drink alcohol or behave inappropriately and that can have a detrimental effect on a lot of people. "Our campaign is designed to encourage young people to take part in constructive and fun activities and just be aware that what seems like fun to them can upset other people."
