Man injured in a street assault

A 21-year-old suffered stomach injuries when he was attacked while walking home in Leicester.

The incident happened near McDonald's restaurant close to the Red Hill roundabout between 2030 and 2100 BST on Friday.

The man was treated at the Leicester Royal Infirmary where he is said to be in a stable condition.

The car park to McDonald's was cordoned off overnight to allow for forensic examination of the scene.

Det Sgt Glen Iceton said: "We've spent most of Friday night through to today building a picture of events however, we know there are people who witnessed this assault who we still haven't spoken to.

"This is a busy part of Leicester on a Friday night. Not only is it a key route into the city centre but McDonalds and Blockbuster are popular places to visit.

"We'd therefore urge anyone who was in the area last night, who may have seen the assault or events directly before or afterwards, to please contact us."
