Inmate found hanging in his cell

An investigation has been launched after an inmate was found dead in his cell at a young offenders institution in Leicester.

Levi Goodman, 20, was found hanging in his cell at about 0432 BST on Tuesday by staff at HMP Glen Parva.

Despite attempts by staff and paramedics to resuscitate him he was pronounced dead just before 0500 BST, a Prison Service spokesman said.

An investigation is to be conducted by the Prisons and Probations Ombudsman.

HMP Glen Parva opened in 1974 and holds a mixture of sentenced and un-sentenced young offenders.

It currently holds 808 prisoners.
