Drink-drive motorists arrested

A total of 114 motorists in Leicestershire have been arrested for drink-driving over the Christmas period, police said.

Leicestershire Police said they were disappointed so many drivers have ignored its drink-driving campaign.

Eight of the arrests were on Christmas day. Of those arrested so far, 105 are men and a third are aged under 25.

Officers said anyone planning to go out for new year celebrations should ensure they have suitable travel arrangements.

Insp Viv Brenchley, commander of the road policing unit, said: "It is very disappointing that so many drivers have ignored our warnings and got behind the wheel whilst under the influence of drink or drugs.

"These drivers have put their own and other people's lives at risk this Christmas."

The campaign began at the beginning of December.
