Bridge fall police investigated

Leicestershire police are being investigated after a man, 23, was taken home following a fall from a bridge.

Officers found him lying in the street near the Jarvis Road bridge in Leicester on the morning of 4 October.

The man, "who appeared confused", was later taken to hospital by his family, the police watchdog said.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said it was examining whether the actions of the officers were in line with police procedure.

Weeks in hospital

A family member took the man to hospital when his condition failed to improve.

Doctors treated him for a number of injuries consistent with a fall from a bridge, the IPCC said.

He spent several weeks in hospital recovering from his injuries.

IPCC commissioner Amerdeep Somal said: "We are currently examining the actions taken by the officers attending the scene that evening and whether these were in line with force policy and procedure."

An IPCC spokeswoman said the man apparently fell about 30ft.
