Car stolen as driver closes gates

A car was stolen in Leicester as its driver got out to shut a gate.

The man drove out of Leicester Engineering Services at around 1945 BST on Saturday when he got out to close the front gates on Scudamore Road.

He left the engine of the silver Mercedes Benz E270 running but another man got in the car and drove it off.

The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later in the Murrayfield Road area but a black ipod phone had been stolen from it.

The suspect is described as white, around 6ft and slim and was wearing a dark jacket with light stripes down the arms.

Appealing for witnesses, Pc Nathan Cowlishaw said: "We believe that the suspect got out of a white van on Scudamore Road just before stealing the vehicle."
