Newly opened play area vandalised

A new children's play area in Leicestershire has been damaged, months after it was opened.

The £300,000 play area in Market Harborough's Welland Park was vandalised last week.

The cost of repairs was estimated at about £500. The people responsible have yet to be found.

The leader of Harborough District Council, Alistair Swathridge, said security at the site had since been stepped up.

She said: "The police are looking at that area at the moment as a hotspot and they're actually doing increased patrols, knowing that there's people vandalising it and working within the area.

"So we'd actually appeal to anybody who has any information at all because so much money was spent on that equipment."
