Post office fire 'is suspicious'

Post office fire
About 40 firefighters tackled the post office blaze

A fire which severely damaged a post office in a Leicestershire town is being treated as suspicious.

Police had reports of a robbery at Church Road in Glenfield on Wednesday night but found a blaze that required about 40 firefighters to control.

Neighbouring homes had to be evacuated and a nearby road was closed. There were no reports of any injuries.

Officers said they want to talk to witnesses, especially passengers on a bus that was passing at the time.

Det Sgt Nigel Barraclough said a service had passed the post office just after 2200 BST.

"I would be keen to speak to passengers who were travelling on the number 94 First bus into Glenfield which passed by at the time of the incident," he said.
