The development will also include a 17-storey hotel

Leicester could be getting a £200m redevelopment in the city centre.

Plans have been submitted to the city council to regenerate the old Corah knitwear site off Vaughan Way.

The plans also include a sports complex with a bowling alley and swimming pool and come eight years after the city's St Margaret's swimming baths closed.

The proposals also include a 17-storey hotel, 250 homes, shops, offices, cafes and workshops. If approved, work could start next summer.

Three historic buildings would be kept as part of the development.

Nick Townsend, of the developers the Bowbridge Group, said: "Although it's an important part of our industrial history, it certainly needs redevelopment.

"And by regenerating it we can create the opportunity to regenerate not just here, but also the broader area, and it connects some of the major regeneration sites within the city centre."
