Warning over false advert claims

More than 5% of business advertisements checked by Leicestershire Trading Standards were found to have false claims about trade body affiliations.

Officers checked more than 300 adverts since May and found some claimed to have trade association membership or council approval which were bogus.

David Bull, head of trading standards, said people should always double check information.

He added he wanted to hear from anyone who had seen adverts with false claims.

"We are taking enforcement action against those businesses found to be displaying false information," said Mr Bull.

"People should always contact the trade association and check if the business is a member and ask what they do for consumers."
