Town's revamped park set to open

A park in a Leicestershire town which has undergone a £300,000 transformation is set to open.

Welland Park in Market Harborough, which has taken two months to complete, features water and sand play areas, an obstacle course and volcano tower.

The site also has facilities for older children, including a climbing pole and a fitness centre.

The project has been funded with money from the district council, Bowdens Charity and the Big Lottery Fund.

Councillor Michael Rook from Harborough District Council said: "We are really pleased to be able to offer this new, exciting and innovative play area for the community both in and around Market Harborough.

"A great deal of work and planning has gone into delivering this project and we hope it is well received by children of all ages."

The park will be opened by local residents, four-year-old Eva Winston-Hart, who has overcome leukaemia, and Gill Hicks, a survivor of the 2005 London Underground bombings.
