A spate of burglaries in part of Leicester has prompted a warning from police about security.
In the past two weeks a total of 21 break-ins have been reported, mainly in the Highfields, North Evington and Spinney Hill areas.
Officers from Spinney Hill Park said in every case houses were entered by insecure, ground floor windows.
They emphasised houses should be secured, especially in hot weather when doors and windows could be left open.
Detective Constable Martin Thompson said: "I appreciate that in the warmer weather people leave windows open.
"But even if you are in the garden enjoying the weather, please make sure that your ground floor windows are shut. It can take just a few seconds for a thief to gain access and steal your valuables."
Officers said they would be carrying out high-visibility patrols in vulnerable areas.
