Fears over rising park violence

Recce park
Some residents say they are too frightened to use the park

Residents living near a park in Leicester have said they are too frightened to use it because anti-social behaviour is getting worse.

In the latest incident, three teenagers stole bikes from two 12-year-old boys who were playing in the park known as the "recce" off Anstey Lane.

Local residents Anne Brookes said there had been "a lot of vandalism in the park" over recent weeks.

Leicestershire Police said tackling problems in the area was a priority.

Mrs Brookes added: "There have been people jumping on our cars, causing damage to houses, rocks thrown at houses and lots of vandalism in the park.

"People are frightened to come out."

Luke Jordan, one the boys who had his bike stolen, said: "I was very angry and upset because I know it was only a bike but it was my pride and joy."
