An operation to tackle drug dealing in Leicester has resulted in 30 arrests, police have confirmed.

Operation Chrome began in May, following a period of intelligence and evidence gathering about the supply of crack cocaine and heroin in the city.

Det Insp Tony Yarwood said the raids across Leicester were "disrupting drug dealing in the city and bringing those responsible to justice".

Of the 30 arrested, 18 people have been charged over drugs offences.

"Enforcement is not the only element to this operation though," said Mr Yarwood.

"We are working with our partners to ensure that appropriate rehabilitation is offered to offenders to help them break the cycle of offending.

"Support and advice is also being offered to the families they leave behind to help them move forward."

He added further arrests would take place throughout July.
