Prayers for fire tragedy family

Scene of fire
The fire severely damaged the house in Braunstone

Prayers are being said for two people who died after a fire in Leicester.

Deanne Harcourt, 22, and her step grandfather Gordon Parker, 78, died after the fire on Heyford Road in the early hours of 22 April.

The memorial will be held as part of a Pentecost service in Braunstone Park on Sunday afternoon.

Reverend Chris Burch of St Peter's Church in Braunstone said: "Our prayers will be for them and for all those that have been involved."

Post-mortem tests showed Ms Harcourt died from smoke inhalation and Mr Parker died as a result of severe burns.

Four other people were rescued from the fire, including three children. Mr Parker's 60-year-old wife Maureen was treated at the Leicester Royal Infirmary for injuries but has since been discharged.

In 1998, Mrs Parker's daughter Teresa Harcourt and her four children died in a fire at a house on a neighbouring road in Braunstone.
