Eco-town opponents stage protest

Members of a Leicestershire campaign group are stepping up their fight against plans for a new eco-town.

The Campaign Against Stoughton Co-op Eco-town (Cascet) is holding its first road show in Oadby on Saturday.

They oppose the controversial plans because of the impact they say it will have on the countryside.

The Co-operative Group, which owns much of the land involved, says it is building a sustainable community which will not encroach on nearby villages.

The idea is part of a government programme to create 10 carbon neutral settlements across the country.

Anne Bond, from Cascet, said they were confident of attracting interest from shoppers and people coming to Oadby from other parts of Leicestershire.
