Blimp flown in wind farm protest
Blimp at Normanton
Protesters flew the blimp the height they think the turbines will be
A giant red blimp has been flown over the Vale of Belvoir as part of a protest against a proposed wind farm.

Ten wind turbines standing 410ft (125m) high could be built near the village of Normanton, Nottinghamshire, as part of plans by developers Infinergy.

The Dowager Duchess of Rutland joined the protest against the turbines, which she said would "completely devastate the area".

Developers Infinergy said it wanted to take the public's views into account.

'Beautiful view'

Fiona Fairhurst of Belvoir Locals Oppose Turbines (Blot) said the group were not opposed to renewable energy sources, but believe they should not be built in unsuitable locations.

"We are opposed to these large, dominating turbines because they're going to be extremely intrusive into the characteristic of the Vale of Belvoir which is known for its beautiful view. These 125m turbines are going to dominate that view.

"Hopefully, with the support of more than 1,000 people who've joined Blot and the £10,000 we've raised, our objections will be taken seriously."

Representatives of Melton Borough Council are due to visit the site on Friday.
