Police crack down on car lights
Police in Leicestershire are warning drivers to make sure the lights on their vehicles are working properly or they could face fines and bans.

Following a month-long crackdown on defective lights, 425 drivers were issued with notices. Of those, 15 vehicles were found to be unroadworthy.

A further 22 motorists were issued with fixed penalty notices and four drivers were arrested for other offences.

Sgt Ivan Stafford said drivers should check lights regularly to stay safe.

"In some ways, the results were disappointing as so many drivers were found to have defective lights on their vehicles," said Sgt Stafford.

"However, on the other hand, we can say that more than 400 motorists have been helped to make their cars roadworthy for the winter.

"Only having one light distorts the view that others have of your car and they may think you're narrower than you actually are."
