Conservatives retained power on Rutland County Council and gained five seats.

The Tories secured 19 of the 26 seats that were being contested while the Liberal Democrats lost two of their four seats.

One Independent was beaten, leaving five independent councillors with seats on the authority.

Council leader Roger Begy said he was delighted with the results: "The sort of candidates who were elected will certainly make their voice known."

He added: "They're strong candidates and they will give me a very rough time if we don't deliver."
