Match found for transplant girl
Eva Winston-Hart
Doctors have said that chemotherapy cannot save Eva
A potentially life-saving bone marrow match has been found for a three-year-old Leicestershire girl.

Eva Winston-Hart from Market Harborough has a rare form of leukaemia and doctors say her only chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant.

A potential match has now been found in the US following months of searching around the world and a donor drive.

Eva's mother Amy Winston-Hart said she would be meeting with doctors on Monday to find out how good the match is.

Procedure risks

"I hope we've got some fantastic news but at the moment I'm seeing it as a potential match for Eva.

"It's an umbilical cord from the US, so, somebody out there who had a baby and donated the umbilical cord to a bank is possibly going to save Eva's life.

"Even if they say you've got your match, there is still the transplant procedure to go through, which carries risks in itself ... so it's not over 'til its over," she said.

Eva was taken ill three months ago. Doctors have said that chemotherapy cannot save her.

More than 600 people joined the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Register after Eva's family appealed for a donor.
