A man who was shot three times at Loughborough University campus has been speaking to police in hospital.
The university music event was open to the public
The student, 21, suffered wounds to the abdomen but is in a non-life threatening condition after the incident in the early hours of Sunday.
Six others were also injured during what was described as a scuffle that broke out after CS spray was released following a public live music event.
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The Nottinghamshire man, who was not studying at the university, was being questioned by police on Monday.
Supt Steph Pandit said: "Officers have been able to speak to the victim of the shooting.
"He's been able to give us some good information and we're currently working through a number of promising lines of inquiry.
"We'd like to hear from anyone who was either at the gig, or left shortly before police officers attended because they may be able to shed some light on what took place."
The victim, who was shot outside the Student Union building, is a student at the university and had been employed as a security steward at the event.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward
One of the other six injured was a 26-year-old woman who was punched in the face.
The event, a live performance by American urban band Pretty Ricky, was attended by members of the public as well as university students.
Professor Shirley Pearce, Vice Chancellor of the university said in a statement that the university and the students' union were working closely with police.
"We are a small, close-knit community and events such as this are thankfully, incredibly rare," she said.
"Our first thoughts are with the victim and his family."
