Cash prizes given for recycling
Residents in part of Leicester are being given cash rewards for recycling their rubbish.

One woman in the Saffron Lane area has won 300 in a prize draw, simply for using her green box correctly.

The city council, in conjunction with the company Biffa, has been awarding prizes for diligent recyclers.

Some schemes have met with problems as they have meant rubbish collections being reorganised but the council said recycling had to be encouraged.

In the Leicester promotion, 12 people received 50 each and all were then entered into a prize draw to win 300.

The winner, Mrs Jean Foulds, said she has always been an avid recycler.

The promotion continues until the end of August.
