Pupils beat Nasa in web contest

The children can put homework tips and weblogs on the site

A Leics primary school has beaten off competition from organisations such as Nasa and the British Geological Survey to win a top website award.

The Woodland Grange Primary in Oadby clinched the education category prize in Yahoo! competition.

The site includes homework tips and pupils' weblogs.

The Woodland Wide Web will now take on seven other category winners in a public vote for the title, People's Choice Find of the Year.

Deputy head teacher Richard Smyton said the pupils, aged between four and 10, and their parents had all played their part in the success.

"It's been an amazing journey from the very first phone call from Yahoo to us winning. I don't think that at any point we expected to win," he said.

"Parents, teachers and pupils are all using it. It is a living site and not just one of those sites that is put up there and left."

Other category winners included a website for storing favourite text messages and a site of TV illusionist Derren Brown.
