Rail crush man has feet amputated
A man has had his feet amputated after they were crushed by a goods train.

Stephen Turner, 48, was clipped by the train while walking on a railway line at Hugglescote in Leicestershire.

The father-of-four, from Newbold Coleorton, near Ashby, called for help on his mobile phone while he lay injured on the tracks.

Mr Turner was treated by paramedics at the scene of the accident on Friday afternoon, before being airlifted to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre.

'Artificial feet'

His wife Vanessa said her husband was walking alongside the track lines to visit some ponds when something on a passing goods train hit him, causing him to lose his balance and to slip on the rails.

She said: "He's been incredibly brave. When I first went down there to see him at the hospital, all the nurses and doctors said how brave he had been.

"We are just so grateful that he's still alive. You can get artificial feet now so it's not the end of the world."

The Railway Inspectorate has launched an investigation into the accident.
