Police welcome sports bar refusal
Police in Loughborough have welcomed a decision to turn down an application for a sports bar in the town centre.

Charnwood Borough Council has refused an application for the licensing of a 450-occupancy sports bar in The Rushes.

The application from Bar Sport was opposed by the police on the grounds that it would undermine work to prevent crime and disorder in the town centre.

Police leaders have suggested that anyone wishing to set up a bar should consult them earlier in the process.

The council's licensing committee heard from police that allowing the application for a further 450 people would only increase the problem of crime and disorder in the borough.
