Church leaders and pastors are to patrol the streets of Leicester.
Friday night sees the launch of the Street Pastors scheme, a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour in the city.
Members of the clergy and lay members, who have all had three months of training with the police, will walk around outside clubs and bars.
The 12 patrol members will wear fluorescent jackets and baseball caps but will call police if they encounter any problems.
They will work in pairs and have mobile phones to keep in close contact.
The idea is to bring care and compassion to the streets of Leicester, while also, organisers hope, reducing the problem of anti-social behaviour.
