Park and ride site moves closer
A £9m park and ride scheme for Leicester has moved a step closer after council chiefs gave it the green light.

The council's cabinet approved proposals for the site near Fosse Park at a meeting on Monday.

Their counterparts at Leicestershire County Council are due to consider the proposals later this month.

Previous plans two years ago to locate it on Aylestone Meadows were turned down by county councillors because of traffic concerns.

The new scheme will see buses going into the city centre every 10 minutes.

If approved by the county council, officers believe it should be open by 2010.

But city councillor John Mugglestone said he hoped it would be ready even earlier.
