Football legend kicks off opening
Sir Trevor Brooking
Sir Trevor Brooking says the centre will benefit the whole community
Former England star Sir Trevor Brooking will open a state-of-the-art football centre in Leicester on Thursday.

The FA Director of Football Development will join pupils and staff to mark the opening of the 1.2m site at Judgemeadow Community College.

It features a floodlit all-weather pitch - one of the first of its kind in the country - as well as 16 new grass pitches for pupils and the community.

There is also a new pavilion, providing eight changing rooms for players.

Sir Trevor said: "By working closely with local groups, clubs and Leicestershire County FA, the school is forming a long lasting partnership that will benefit not only pupils but all members of the local community."

The centre has been funded with a grant of 911,000 from the Football Foundation charity, along with Leicester City Council and the college itself.

Councillor John Mugglestone, cabinet member for regeneration and culture at the council, said: "These superb new facilities are great news for the local community, and I hope that people of all ages will come along and get involved - particularly those who often feel excluded from the beautiful game."
