Protest highlights wharf dispute
Loughborough Wharf
Residents plan a protest about a wharf redevelopment
A protest has been staged by people opposing plans for the redevelopment of Loughborough's wharf area.

Organisers claim the 90ft (27m) buildings will dwarf the area and be out of keeping with the town.

The Wharf Action Group held a protest at the site on Saturday with posters showing the current plans and their preferred, smaller scale option.

The British Waterways plan involves an eight-storey block of flats for 250 residents, plus bars and restaurants.

The action group argue the scheme is a flood risk, will cut out light, and be too noisy for people on canal boats using the wharf.

British Waterways has said there is plenty of space around the buildings including a plaza area and there has been almost five years of consultation with residents over the plans.
