Police target sex trade in city
Police are pledging to crack down on a rise in street prostitution in an area of Leicester.

Officers say there has been a significant increase in sex trade in the New Walk area of the city.

They have launched Operation Juliet, which will also target drug dealers and anti-social behaviour, to try to control the problem.

Uniformed and plain-clothes officers will carry out high-profile patrols and a mobile CCTV van will also be used.

Operation Juliet starts on 3 October and will focus on De Montfort Street, Princess Road East and University Road.

Sgt Paul Allen said: "Prostitutes will be dealt with under the existing policy of giving two street cautions before arrest - and further prosecution - is imposed."
