Prisoner discovered dead in cell
A remand prisoner has been found dead in his cell just a week before his 20th birthday, the Prison Service has said.

Andrew Sims was found hanged in his cell at the Glen Parva Young Offenders' Institute near Wigston, Leicestershire, on Thursday, officials confirmed.

Mr Sims, from Nottingham, had been on remand at the centre since June facing charges of burglary.

A Prison Service spokesman said Mr Sims was found by staff in his cell suspended by a ligature.

"Staff attempted CPR but he was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital," the spokesman said.

"Every death in custody is a tragedy and our sympathies are with the friends and family of Mr Sims."

An investigation has been launched by the prison's ombudsman.
