New Year emergency calls double
police on the beat
Bobbies on patrol had a busy new year in Leicestershire
Leicestershire Police had one of their busiest nights since the millennium as partygoers packed into the city centre to see in the New year.

The force dealt with 500 incidents in the first few hours of 1 January, twice the number for a usual weekend night.

Ch Supt Kevin Burrows said alcohol was no excuse for anti-social behaviour.

He said: "There are people who continue to ignore police advice and therefore spoil the celebrations for the majority of law abiding people."
