Two people escape 'candle fire'

Two people have had a lucky escape from a house fire in Rutland which was started by candles.

Fire fighters were alerted to the blaze on Stretton Road in Greatham after a candle set light to a nearby mattress on Monday.

The occupants had managed to escape before fire fighters arrived at just before 10pm.

The bedroom suffered severe fire damage and almost all of the upstairs of the building has been damaged by smoke.
