Mother wants jail for tormentor
Jamie Thompson
The court heard Thompson was suffering from a mental condition
A campaign group wants a stiffer sentence for a man found guilty of child cruelty.

Jamie Thompson, 28, from Leicester was given a two-year community rehabilitation order in May after being filmed swinging a one-year-old girl around by her leg.

The child's mother wants Thompson to be given a custodial sentence.

Thompson was caught on video by the mother when she become suspicious he was harming her daughter.

He was given a rehabilitation order after the judge took into account psychological reports which showed he was suffering from post-traumatic stress.

Ragdoll Campaign

Thompson, who worked as a security guard, had admitted the charge.

The mother has started a Ragdoll Campaign that will tour shopping centres all over the East Midlands collecting signatures.

The girl - who cannot be named for legal reasons - suffered a broken leg a month before the incident.

The judge said the child was terrified by what had happened - and although she suffered no serious physical injury the psychological damage was incalculable.

The petition will be taken to the Home Secretary urging him to give Thompson a prison sentence.
