Mourners were gathering in Loughborough on Saturday for the funeral of teenager Adam Morrell.
The 14-year-old was killed in November and parts of his body were found in three locations around the town, including a canal.
Four people are to stand trial for his murder.
His devastated family, who will lead the mourners at the service, described Adam as their "ray of sunshine".
In a written tribute, they described him as a young man with a bubbly personality and sweet nature, who loved animals and enjoyed drama at school.
The service will be carried out at All Saints Church by the Reverend Stephen Cherry, who said Adam got on with people of all ages.
After the ceremony, Adam's coffin will be taken by horse-drawn carriage to Loughborough Cemetery.
