Warning to Fleetwood sex attacker who abducted girl, 10

Police have said that the "net is closing in" on a man who snatched a 10-year-old girl in a Lancashire street and sexually assaulted her.

The man grabbed the girl in Martindale Avenue, Fleetwood, as she left a sweet shop on Sunday, at 1320 BST.

She was driven to land off Rossall Lane and subjected to a "serious sexual assault", police said.

The attacker is described as 30, with short, balding hair and was wearing blue jeans and a blue checked shirt.

I can't emphasise just how appalling this crime is
Det Ch Insp Neil Esseen, Lancashire police

Det Ch Insp Neil Esseen said: "The victim has shown immense bravery in retelling her account of events to our specially trained officers and her family are being supported throughout.

"We are continuing to work with her to obtain further details of her attacker.

"I can't emphasise just how appalling this crime is.

"I would appeal directly to the offender, or anybody who is aware of what he has done, to talk to us as quickly as possible. The net is closing in and we will find him."

He said he believed the car involved was dark green or turquoise and had a pair of blue baby's training shoes in the boot.

He added: "We also believe that from picking the victim up on Martindale Avenue and travelling to Rossall Lane, the car stopped. Did anybody see anything suspicious in the area at around that time?"

He urged anyone with any information to contact Lancashire police immediately.
