Fatal taxi crash passenger appeal

Police want to talk to passengers who got a lift in a taxi shortly before the driver died in a crash in Burnley.

The victim, Imran Hussain, is believed to have lost control of his car and struck a dry stone wall in Burnley Road on Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of the crash he was travelling alone, police said.

Officers want to speak to his last passengers. He dropped them off in the Rossendale area.

Mr Hussain was a driver for A1 Tiger and Claret Taxis and drove a blue Vauxhall Zafira.

Sgt Gareth Hill said: "We believe Mr Hussain was travelling back to Burnley after dropping off passengers in the Rossendale area and I am keen to trace these passengers as they are the last people to see Mr Hussain alive.

"Two taxis were ordered at 0350 GMT on Sunday for eight to 10 people taking them from Hargreaves Street in Burnley to the Crawshaw Booth or Rossendale Road area.

"If you ordered that taxi, or were one of the passengers I would ask that you please contact police as you could have information to help with our investigation."
