Rare 1928 FA Cup memento on sale

Blackburn Rovers album
The book is thought to be one of only 10 copies made

A book marking Blackburn Rovers' 1928 FA Cup final victory is to go under the hammer.

The leather-bound volume was presented to the club's vice chairman in front of a 92,000 crowd following the 3-1 defeat of Huddersfield Town at Wembley.

It features a silk badge of the borough coat of arms, as worn by the players during the game, and photographs of the team meeting King George V.

The book, to be sold on 27 November, is thought to be one of only 10 made.

'Proudest moment'

The item will go under the hammer at Cuttlestones Auctioneers, in Staffordshire.

Ben Gamble, managing director, said: "This will be a real prize for any Blackburn Rovers collector.

"It's a real snapshot of one of the team's proudest moments and there have probably only ever been nine others in existence; who knows how many still survive?"

The album contains over 30 images, including a shot of the team and the directors, an aerial view of Wembley and the captain receiving the FA Cup from the King, as well as shots of the cup parade in Blackburn.

The books were originally presented to the club's board, but it is not known if any others are still in existence.

The auctioneers believe hundreds of Blackburn Rovers fans will attend the auction.

The 1928 victory was the last of Rovers' six FA Cup final wins.
