Police arrest man in murder hunt

Police investigating the murder of a man found behind a house in Lancashire have made an arrest in Scotland.

Peter Berkley, 43, was discovered dead by a resident at the back of a property in Abbeystead, Skelmersdale, on Saturday morning.

A 22-year-old man from Skelmersdale was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday morning in Hamilton and brought back to Skelmersdale for questioning.

A post-mortem found the Ormskirk-born man died from stab wounds, police said.

Car appeal

Det Supt Andy Webster, of Lancashire Police, said they needed to speak to anyone with information about Mr Berkley's death "as a matter of urgency".

"I would also like to speak with anybody who may have seen a black Ford Ranger, registration MV04 SXM, in or around the Skelmersdale area after 1000 GMT yesterday."

An incident room has been set up at Skelmersdale police station and the area around the house has been sealed off.
