Walker's body formally identified

John Kirkham
Mr Kirkham has been missing since 10 August after he set off on a 9km walk

A man's body found in Turkey has been formally identified as that of a missing Lancashire hiker.

John Kirkham, 67, from Fleetwood, disappeared while walking along the Lycian Way near the resort of Olu Deniz in the south of the country in August.

He set off alone on a six-mile hike along the trail but never returned.

His body was discovered just off the Lycian Way, in the Aegean region of Fethiye, three weeks ago and is due to be flown home on 7 October.

His death is not being treated as suspicious by Lancashire Police.

Mr Kirkham was on holiday with his wife, Sandra, 63, and their 14-year-old granddaughter and one of her friends.

His wife contacted local police when the retired BAE Systems project manager failed to return on 10 August. Hundreds of tourists joined mountain rescue teams and police in the search.
