Two men have appeared in court charged with the murder of an 18-year-old woman in a Lancashire park.

Louise Evans, 18, suffered knife injuries and head wounds in Towneley Park, Burnley.

Matthew Maw, 18, and Anthony Wood, 21, of Elizabeth Street, Burnley, were remanded by Burnley magistrates and are due at Preston Crown Court on 30 July.

Miss Evans' adoptive parents, Lorraine and Jeff Evans, said she was a "loving and special daughter".

Multiple injuries

Miss Evans was discovered in the early hours of Tuesday and pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other men, aged 17, 20 and 22, and a 19-year-old woman who were arrested over the murder, have been released without charge.

A post-mortem examination revealed Miss Evans died from multiple injuries.

She was believed to have been living in a hostel before the attack.
