Detectives have been granted a further 36 hours to continue questioning two men, aged 18 and 20, over the murder of a woman in a Lancashire park.

Louise Stephanie Evans, 18, suffered multiple knife and head wounds in what police said was a "horrific" attack in Towneley Park, Burnley, on Tuesday.

Two men, aged 22 and 17, and a woman aged 19 were released without charge. A 20-year-old man remains in custody.

A post-mortem examination revealed Miss Evans died from multiple injuries.

She was believed to have been living in a hostel before the attack.

Police appealed to anyone who saw a group of young people in the park around the time of the murder to contact them.

Attempts were made to resuscitate the woman when the emergency services arrived, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Det Ch Insp Mark Gray said he was confident the killing was an "isolated incident" and not a stranger attack.
