Police issue road safety warning

Children in Lancashire have been warned to stay away from motorways and not to throw debris from overhead bridges as their summer break from school starts.

The warning came after police caught three children throwing bricks onto the M65 motorway near the Altham overbridge on 16 July.

The youngsters were spoken to in front of their parents about the potential consequences of their actions.

Insp Phil Cottam said the incident could have had "horrific" consequences.

"The motorway network is no place to play. The incident that took place earlier this week could have been horrific had one of the drivers lost control," he added.
