Man charged over canal boat death

A 72-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a man on a narrowboat on a canal in Lancashire.

David Tweddle, 56, from Carlisle, was found collapsed on the vessel by emergency services and later pronounced dead at the scene on Wednesday night.

They had responded to a report of an assault on a canal towpath at Garstang.

David Shiels, of Dawlish Avenue in Blackpool, is due to appear before Lancaster magistrates on 18 July.
