A £16,000 improvement plan to make a Lancashire town centre shopping area safer and more attractive has begun. The work in the clock tower area of Ormskirk town centre will see the old stone setts (cobbles) replaced with stone slabs. West Lancashire Borough Council said the improvements would make the area safer for disabled people. New benches and freshly painted litter bins will smarten up the area, a council spokesman said. Later in the summer the council is planning to refurbish the compass which is a feature of the pedestrian area close to the clock tower.
