Police believe the fire may have been started deliberately by youths

An investigation has been started following an arson attack on a property in Lancashire, police said.

Fire crews were called to unoccupied premises in Frome Street, Preston, on Saturday where a fire had been started in an upstairs bedroom.

The fire was put out but damage worth about £10,000 was caused to the property, predominately upstairs.

Det Insp Dave McKenna said that there may have been a threat to life if the fire had spread to nearby properties.

"We are treating this as arson and a full investigation is underway.

"There is a suspicion youths could be responsible," he said.
