Burnley's promotion could help boost the area's economy

Burnley's economy will receive a boost of at least £60m as the town's football team reach the Premier League.

Promotion to top flight football will bring £55m of television deals and an estimated £5m in advertising.

The town's stadium, Turf Moor which has a capacity of 22,000, will play host to teams like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

It is hoped that this will also enhance the tourist trade, improving some of the most deprived areas in the country.

Burnley Council's leader, Councillor Gordon Birtwistle, said: "People have only known us of years gone by, but now we have good things the successes that we are having.

"It is brilliant news and Burnley has a very bright future."

Burnley returned to English football's top flight for the first time since 1976 after beating Sheffield United 1-0 in the Championship play-off final on 25 May.
